How does the Media Product represent a particular social group?
At the start of the research process I began to look at magazines that would help me with the design of my magazine. I wanted to appeal to a rock audience aged from 15-25, this meant that i had to show that social group within my magazine.
The social group that i decided to represent and target are young adults how share a passion for the rock genre, they will be from the middle and lower social class aged 15-25 years old. My magazine focuses on not only new and upcoming bands and artists but also the older generation who have laid out a foundation for the young generation of rock artists to follow. My demographic would be 70% male and 30% female. I have portrayed this niche social group by using certain fonts for example my masthead. The artist that i used for my magazine would also appeal to the target audience as he is a young artist who has had his far share of hardships battling with serious problems like depression, drink and drugs which does happen a lot with the rock culture.
When researching into the type of magazine i wanted to create i found tons of magazines which i later used for inspiration for designing my magazine the way that it is. Within the pages i have also applied to technophiles by advertising social media platforms. Overall i believe that i have managed to represent the social group that i am targeting well throughout my magazine. Within the article it goes through the struggles that many rock artists have to face as they have a certain expectation to fulfil by being hardcore.
I feel that the information within the article would appeal to any rock fan who is interested in learning more about artists and what they have to go through when the going gets tough.
